On Wednesday night, security forces prevented a massive car bomb attack in J&K’s Pulwama. They stopped a vehicle carrying 40-45 kg of an improvised explosive device (IED). This plan resembled 2019 attack which killed over 40 soldiers in Pulwama. Last year a suicide bomber drove a car full of explosives into a CRPF convoy.
Based on intelligence inputs, at a checkpoint on Wednesday night, stop signal given to a white Hyundai Santro car with a fake registration number, but it tried to accelerate and go through the barricade, the police said.
Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police said that the security forces opened fire at the car but the driver escaped. He further told that they came to know about a possible attack, they were already looking for a car with IED.
“The terrorist intended to target vehicles of security forces. We are calling expert teams from outside. We suspect that the vehicle was carrying 40-45 kg of explosives,” news agency ANI reported quoted Mr Kumar. Vijay suspects the driver as a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist. Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist who is also in touch with Jaish-e-Mohammed. In the last year Jaish-e-Mohammed, involved with the suicide attack on the CRPF convoy.
Several Houses Damaged While Destroying The Car
Later, a bomb disposal squad destroyed the car with IED. However, while destroying, a massive explosion left several houses damaged.
“It (car) was kept under watch for the night. People in nearby houses were evacuated and the vehicle was destroyed on-site by the bomb disposal squad as moving it would have been a serious threat,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said.
In the same district, on 14 February 2019, a terror attack happened. Later, India attacked Jaish-e-Mohammed, a camp of the terror group deep inside Pakistan.
In the last two months, there has been a spurt in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir; 30 security forces personnel including officers have lost their lives. During this period, 38 terrorists have also been shot dead by security forces.
Earlier this month, the killing took place in an encounter in Pulwama of one of Kashmir’s most wanted terrorists Riyaz Naikoo. Riyaz Naikoo, the commander of terror group Hizbul Mujahideen.
