There are many requests from several state governments and experts, the central government is now planning whether the 21-day nationwide lockdown that’s scheduled to finish on 14 April, Many state governments, also as experts, are requesting the central government to increase the lockdown. The report comes within the wake of multiple chief ministers asking Modi to increase the lockdown. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Monday made a robust case for the extension of the continued lockdown. Rao had advocated for the extension of the present shutdown saying, “The Centre and everyone other State Governments have lost revenue during the lockdown period. The only positive outcome of this action is often that we are ready to protect our people.”KCR also cited reports of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey, that has asked for ruthless measures like an extension of the lockdown till a minimum of June.
He also said at a conference that “I am appealing to the Prime Minister and Government of India to increase lockdown without hesitation. Lockdown is that the only weapon we’ve to regulate the spread of this disease and avoid a situation which countries just like the US, Spain, and Italy face.” Modi was believed to possess told chief ministers in his last CM conference, on 2 April, that it’s a ‘long-drawn battle’, something he reiterated on Monday while he was addressing party cadres on the occasion of the BJP’s Foundation Day.
Soon after the CM conference by Prime Minister, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, declared from his Twitter account that “The Prime Minister said that the government shouldn’t lift the lockdown immediately from April 15 but it should happen in phases. Precautions should be taken to ensure that there’s no crowding.”
The government has not made any assertion thus far whether it’s getting to extend the present lockdown or not but government sources have confirmed that the Modi government is considering the requests to increase the shutdown.
Will Lockdown Extend?
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said his government will extend lockdown if the need arises, while his counterpart in Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot said the state cannot withdraw the lockdown immediately, and it’s to be wiped out a phased manner. In a statement to mark fortnight of lockdown, Vice Chairman, M Venkaiah Naidu said subsequent one week of the lockdown is “critical” for evolving an exit strategy because the data regarding the spread of coronavirus will have an impact on the choice to be taken by the government.

India’s tally of COVID-19 positive cases rose to 4,421, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.
