Google Removes Paytm Application From Play Store

Google removes Paytm and Paytm First Game Fantasy apps from its play store. However, applications like Paytm for Business, Paytm Mall and Paytm Money are still available on the play store.

The Paytm company announced that the app will soon be back on the play Store. Paytm highlighted that all money of users is completely safe. Moreover, both of the removed apps are available on the Apple store.

The Google Play Store listing of the Paytm app is currently showing an error that states, “We’re sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.” This means Android users can no longer able to download the Paytm app.

Further, all users who already installed the app on their phone can still use the services provided by the application.

However, Google has not mentioned any reason behind the removal of the app from its store. As per tech giants, there has been an issue of gambling policy.

Google does not permit online casinos and other gambling applications which are unregulated and encourage sports betting. On the other hand, Paytm encourages fantasy sports services within its app. For this reason, Google removes Paytm’s First Games from the play store.

Suzzane Frey of Google, Vice President, Product, Android security and Privacy states said in the blog that they do not allow online casinos and neither they facilitate unregulated gambling applications. She said, “This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies.”

Frey notes, “We have these policies to protect users from potential harm. When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance.”
