Hathras Girl Raped By Relative, 6-Year-Old Dies In Safdarjung Hospital

After the gang-rape of Dalit woman in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, a 6-year-old Hathras girl was allegedly raped by her relative. On Tuesday the police said that the child died during treatment at a hospital in Delhi.

In Iglas area of Aligarh district, the minor was held captive at a relative’s house. She was rescued on September 17, said the Senior Superintendent of Police Muniraj G.

“On a complaint by a social organisation police raided the house, which belonged to a relative of the victim, found the girl and admitted her to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College hospital where she was being treated till four days ago,” said SSP, reported Firstpost.

After the condition of Hathras girl deteriorated, she was shifted to Delhi’s Safdurjung hospital and later died on Monday.

On September 21, an FIR was registered by police after the girl’s father complained. The father complained that he suspected that the girl was raped while she was held captive.

The SSP said that the police arrested the relative who was 15-year-old after he confessed to his crime.

“The boy’s mother, who is the maternal aunt of the victim, is reported to be an accomplice in the crime and is absconding,” he said.

The victim’s family sat with the victim’s body on the main road of Hathras on Tuesday. They protest against the police’s failure in arresting the woman. The family agreed to conduct the last rites after senior police officials persuaded them.

The Iglas police station SHO has been suspended for his negligence said the SSP. Two police teams have also been allocated to trace the woman said the SSP.

This incident came into light after an outrage broke out over the death of a Dalit woman after being gang-raped by four upper-caste men. The Uttar Pradesh government ordered a CBI probe into the incident.

This CBI probe came after several questions were raised over the handling of the victim by the UP police. The UP police cremated the victim’s body in the midnight, without affirmation with the victim’s family members.
