HC To Delhi Govt: Conclude Action Against Minorities Panel Chief Zafarul

The Delhi Govt asked by the HC to reach for a conclusion of the process started against Zafarul Islam Khan. An FIR filed against him for his controversial post on social media.

The Court directed the Government to conclude the process within 2 weeks. Zafarul-Islam Khan, charged under Section 4(4)(f) of the Delhi Minorities Commission Act, for posting a controversial post on media.

The petition filed against Zafarul requires his removal from the post of Chairperson of Delhi Minorities Commission.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi already taken steps in Zafarul’s matter said the court. On May 8, 2020, a show-cause notice issued against Zafarul.

The court observed, ” Since under Section 4(4)(f) of the Delhi Minorities Commission Act, the opinion whether a Member or a Chairperson of the Delhi Minorities Commission has abused his position and/or in the public interest is liable to be removed from the post of Chairperson or Member, is to be of the Delhi government, it is not open to this Court to order removal …. ” even before the DMC and LG have formed an opinion in this respect. 

Following the last order, a Status Report has been filed. The report stated the Khan’s post to have the potential of disturbing communal harmony in the city. 

Earlier, the Special Cell of Delhi Police sedition charges against Zafarul Islam Khan for his incendiary remarks.

The FIR Stated The Khan’s Post As “Provocative”, HC Ordered Delhi Govt To Conclude

 

In the social media, Zafarul posted that if Indian Muslims bothered continuously, he will complain to the Arab countries following which all hell will break loose.

An FIR filed against Zafarul, by a resident of Vasant Kunj, stated that the Khan’s post as “provocative, intend to cause disharmony and create a rift in the society.”

However, Zafarul apologized on social media via post. The post said the controversial post as “ill-timed and insensitive given the country facing a medical emergency”.

Further, he said that his controversial post meant for thanking Kuwait for recognising the unjust towards Indian Muslims during North East Delhi violence has affected some people’s sentiments, contradictory to his intentions.
