A man in Maharajganj, a district in Uttar Pradesh raped a 12-year old girl and murdered her on Friday, and left her body int he forest, reported PTI, citing the police.
Rohit Singh Sajwan, SP of Maharajganj told PTI that the man was arrested after the incident. The man has been booked under various sections of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
According to News18, the incident happened in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. On Friday evening, the man took the girl on his bicycle to eat snacks. Later, the accused took the girl child to the forest and raped and strangled her. After raping and strangling the girl child, the accused returned back to the village.
Soon after, the relatives of the girl child began a search for her. They all tracked the man in his house and later handed him to the police.
On Saturday evening, the body of the girl was found in the forest, as told to PTI by the unidentified officials. The girl’s body has been sent for postmortem analysis.
Recently, before this incident, in the Lakhimpur Kheri district, a 17-year old girl was raped and killed. A week after the above incident, Maharaganj’s incident happened. Before this month, 4 men had been arrested for raping and murdering a 13-year old Dalit girl in the district.
Regarding the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, many opposition leaders have raised questions. Crimes in Uttar Pradesh, mostly against women were reported in the last few weeks.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi criticised the state government for failing to ensure the safety of women while Rahul Gandhi said the “jungle raj” of caste-based violence and crimes against women was at its peak under the current dispensation. Uttar Pradesh is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party since 2017.
