On Sunday morning, Muslim youth assaulted in NE Delhi, Maujpur. Mohammed Adil and Mohammed Kamil from Shahadra’s Vijay Park had gone to buy medicine for Adil’s unwell child, reported The Wire. It further said that upon their return, they ran out of petrol. They reached north-east Delhi’s Maujpur, alone. Adil, the younger of the two brothers, started dragging the scooter home. Kamil was walking some distance behind.
Upon reaching Maujpur-Babarpur Metro station, Kamil saw some people appearing from the building’s parking area.
Kamil told The Wire, as reported, that those 12-13 people attacked Adil. The incident happened under the Maujpur metro station. Further, The Wire reported that all those people were drunk.
Kamil alleged that men started abusing Adil. “They were calling him Mulla, Katua (slangs used for Muslims), and asked him to say Jai Shri Ram. When he refused, they started beating him up”, further reported The Wire.
Adil is an auto driver while Kamil is a mechanic.
Due to the NE Delhi violence life of people living in those areas has yet to become normal.
Adil severely injured, currently admitted in GTB hospital in Delhi.
The Wire reported that Kamil wants peace in that area. It added that he wants punishment for culprits to avoid any such incidents further.
A police official present in the area said that they will check the CCTV footage and identify the culprits. He further assured that along with ITBP, the police force has been deployed outside their residence.
However, there is still a sense of fear among his family members.
The Wire reported, the victim’s younger brother, “We have been living in this locality for the past 20-25 years. I feel so scared suddenly. The area has not yet even recovered from NE Delhi riots, and now this has happened. My brother did nothing to be in the hospital at midnight. I don’t know what will happen to him. Were they animals?”
Vijay Park, where the family lives, comes under the Bhajanpura police station. However, the locality where they were attacked comes under the jurisdiction of Jafrabad PS.
However, Ved Prakash Surya, DCP (Northeast), has denied a communal angle in this, reported The Wire.
