Plasma Therapy Permitted In US By Trump, Kejriwal Congratulated Delhi

US President Donald Trump announced that the US will be using plasma therapy against COVID-19. On the above announcement Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s chief minister said,” What Delhi did yesterday, America does today.”

Kejriwal tweeted, “They used to say, back in the day – what America does today, India would do tomorrow. Delhi has changed it. Now – what Delhi did yesterday, America does today.” He further wrote ‘congratulations’ in his tweet for achieving this for the country.

He attached as well, an update from ANI (News Agency) regarding Trump making the announcement to allow the usage of plasma therapy.

On Sunday, Trump welcomed the FDA authorisation of a coronavirus treatment that uses Plasma of recovered patients. Earlier, Trump had accused the agency impeding the rollout of vaccines and therapeutics for political reasons.

In a news conference in White House, Trump said, “This is what I’ve been looking to do for a long time.” He added, “Today I’m pleased to make a truly historic announcement in our battle against the China virus that will save countless lives.”

The decision of the FDA was cited with evidence that suggested plasma can reduce the mortality and improve the health of patients if administered in the initial three days of their hospitalization.

The FDA said that till now 70,000 patients have been recovered by using the plasma therapy.

Last month, Kejriwal launched its first plasma bank in Delhi for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Under plasma therapy, antibodies from the blood of a person who has recovered from Covid-19 are taken and transfused into a coronavirus infected patient to boost the immune system to fight the infection.

In Delhi, more than 700 patients of COVID-19 have been treated with plasma therapy till now. 18-years old is the youngest age to be treated with plasma therapy and the oldest age is 94-years-old. Among the people treated with plasma therapy, 522 were males and 188 were females.
