On Thursday, Ram Vilas Paswan, a minister in PM Narendra Modi‘s cabinet died at a Delhi hospital where he was being treated for heart surgery. He was also the founder of the Lok Janshakti Party.
He was undergoing surgery last Saturday. His situation emerged suddenly as tweeted by his son on Saturday.
Cremation took place today in Patna. Twitter also flooded with condolences for the great leader. Among the first to tweet was President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Modi, Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“I am saddened beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will perhaps never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity,” PM Modi’s post read.
Ram Vilas Paswan had been in almost all central governments since 1989 and had served 6 PMs. He was in charge of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution portfolios during the cabinet of Prime minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier after the Gujarat riots, Paswan got back with BJP. In 2014, Narendra Modi was looking for allies, Mr Paswan brought Lalu Yadav’s RJD to form an alliance with BJP.
He is being remembered as the most powerful leader from Bihar. he was also among the young leaders who inspired and formed by the JP movement during ’70s along with Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar.
During the 1975 emergency, Ram Vilas Paswan got jailed. However, he made his name into the record books for the parliamentary elections during 1977. In that election he won the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat from Bihar which was the highest-ever margin.
Last year he passed his Hajipur seat to his younger brother and Pashupati Kumar Paras who is the Bihar minister thus skipping the Lok Sabha polls. He entered parliament through the Rajya Sabha.
