Sechenov University Successfully Completes Trials Of Covid-19 Vaccine

The world’s first coronavirus vaccine can be from Russia as it successfully completed the clinical trials at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. Vadim Tarasov, the director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology, told Sputnik about this information. Further, he added that the first group of volunteers would be discharged on Wednesday and the second on July 20.

On June 18, the clinical trials of the vaccine had begun at the University. The vaccine produced by Russia’s Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. Tarasov said that Sechenov University has successfully completed tests on volunteers of the world’s first vaccine against coronavirus.

According to Alexander Lukashev, their study’s objective at this stage was to prove that their vaccine is safe for human health. Moreover, the vaccine was successful in its trial. Alexander Lukashev is the director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Vector-Borne Diseases at Sechenov University.

Lukashev told Sputnik that the safety of the vaccine is confirmed. He further told that it corresponds to the safety of those vaccines that are currently on the market.

Lukashev added that further development plan of the vaccine is determined by the developer’s strategy. The plan also includes the complexity of the epidemiological situation with the virus and the possibility of scaling up production, Lukashev added.

Tarasov noted that in the pandemic, Sechenov University acted as a specific and technological research centre apart from being an educational institution.
“Sechenov University in a pandemic situation acted as a scientific and technological research center that is able to participate in the creation of such important and complex products as drugs … We worked with this vaccine, starting with preclinical studies and protocol development, and clinical trials are currently underway,” Tarasov noted.

The coronavirus infected numbers keep on increasing. The total numbers of COVID-19 cases globally crossed the tally of 12.6 Million. India recorded a single-day increase of 27,114 COVID-19 cases.
