Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh took the name of three TV channels regarding the TRP scam. Along with two local Mumbai channels, the name of Republic TV also came. On Thursday, Arnab Goswami said that he will take legal action against the police commissioner for taking the name of Republic TV in the TRP scam.
As per claims of the Mumbai’s top cop, they have busted a scam that involved private TV channels manipulating their TRPs.
Threatening criminal defamation, Goswami issued a statement saying, “Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh has made false allegations against Republic TV because we have questioned him in the Sushant Singh Rajput case investigation. Republic TV will file a criminal defamation case against Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. “
The statement further said that BARC has not taken the name of Republic in any single complaint thus exposing Param Bir Singh. It further read that an official apology should be issued by Bir and should be prepared to face in the court.
As per the Mumbai police probe, a private firm purchased a 30,000 audience measurement metres of which 2,000 were installed in Mumbai.
Mumbai police chief said at a press conference that some particular households which have these metres installed were paid money to tune to a particular channel. Mumbai’s police officer found in one case that a household which has illiterate people always watched an English news channel.
Around Rs 400-500 were paid for every month to these particular households for watching an English channel.
Republic TV’s officials will be summoned soon said the Mumbai police commissioner since they are on police’s radar for the TRP scam.
The senior police officer said that anybody who is involved with this scam will be spared. Earlier they believed, said Singh that certain news channels were carrying out propaganda stories to boost their TRP, but now they see that news channels are manipulating audience data too.
