US Doctor Claims Medicine to 100% Cure COVID-19, Charged With Fraud

A Doctor of California, charged for selling drugs claiming to cure COVID-19 disease, without any proof.

Dr. Jennings Ryan Staley, a licensed physician, who also runs a beauty spa (skinny beach med) in San Diego without proof claimed that the drugs he was selling made consumers have an immunity against the virus for a minimum of six weeks.

FBI investigated this case after seeing advertisements of false claiming by Skinny beach which goes as “COVID-19 treatment packs”, in late March. This pack was for a family of four at dollar 3,995.

This package includes hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin medications. These anti-anxiety treatments help avoid panic if needed and help in sleeping.

Drugs like hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, which are autoimmune, are developed to fight against malaria. They are used in various capacities as COVID-19 treatments. Hydroxychloroquine, which is also taken by patients who are affected by lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, has been used after combining it with azithromycin, an antibiotic which is famous by its brand name Zithromax Z-Pak, to give treatment to coronavirus infected people.

President of the US, Donald Trump, appreciated the use of medicine in his tweet but scientists are yet to determine its effectiveness.

Studies show that the use of these drugs has mixed results and even FDA said that more tests to be done on the COVID-19 treatment with the use of these drugs.

Health care provider Kaiser Permanente says that he has stopped prescribing these drugs to people as there is a shortage of it. And, people with autoimmune conditions are desperately seeking it.

As per the US attorney’s office, Staley referred to its medication as a “magic bullet.”

US Attorney Robert Brewer, Jr., said that they will not accept fraudsters related to COVID-19 who try to sell and make a profit by taking advantage of the pandemic fear among people, to steal, cheat and harm others. He further added that people who found guilty of this will find themselves in the crosshairs of federal prosecutors.

Patrick Griffin, attorney of Staley, denied the acquisitions made on Staley stating that Staley was promoting the same medications which were championed by Trump.

Griffin added that regulation must be a priority to the government these days instead of prosecuting people like Staley, who will be prisoned for 20 years in jail if founded guilty.
